Wild Berries

Lexile Score: N/A

Summary:
This story is about how a boy and his grandmother go on a walk to find blueberries. The story talks about all the different sights the duo see on their search for berries.

Evaluation:
Overall I would say this book is of high quality literature. The illustrations in this book are simple, but very eye friendly. They use natural colors and with a different type of pictures. The images in the story look a bit Picasso instead of the usual images you see in children’s books. The images are also a nice balance between color and white, which is pleasing to the eye.
The text itself is basic with minimal words-which is great for starting out readers. The words are also written in both English and Cree would is nice if you have students who speak Cree in your class. The storyline is also very general and the book itself does not contain any stereotypes.

Literary Elements:
Text: Written in English and Cree
 Characters: Little boy and Grandma
Illustrations: Picasso like

Mini Lesson:
For this lesson I would show students different types of pieces of art that are similar to the images in the book. I would then have students create their own images in this style and write a story about it.
